Jenna Downing & Franky Morales top LG Action Sports World Championships
The LG Action Sports Championship is the world's premiere Inline Skate showcase, and two new champions emerged this year.
British skater Jenna Downing came out on top in the women's contest with her Run 1 score of 87.50 beating out Fallon Heffernan (78.75), 2004 champ Fabiola da Silva (76.00), and Chynna Weierstall (57.00) in the Women's Street Finals.
"I feel absolutely amazing and on top of the world," says Downing. She won the silver medal in 2007 and says she made it her mission to take the next step up the podium this year. "To be the world champion for 2008 was one of my main aims for this year, so I'm just thrilled."
Competition got fierce in the men's contest too, with Franky Morales claiming the top spot, French skater Stephane Alfano taking the silver in a close finish, David Sizemore the bronze, Brian Aragon in 4th, Chaz Sands in 5th, and Brian Shima in 6th after a battle of highly technical tricks and huge transfer lines over gaps on the course in the Finals jam session. The Men's Street Finals featured 13 skaters from the U.S., France, Switzerland, and Australia.
"My goal coming in was just that I wanted to make top 12, show people my stuff, and let everybody know I'm still in the game," says Morales. "It was crazy competition out here tonight and the level of skating in our sport has just progressed so far, so it's really honor to come out on top. I'm going to be celebrating tonight for sure."
